The FINANCIAL — Moldova and Ukraine have successfully identified key needs for assisting both countries to fulfil the customs obligations of their Association Agreement and related Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (AA/DCFTA) with the EU, in cooperation with the EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM).
A working group, consisting of experts from the customs services of both states, the European Commission, the Customs Department of the Czech Republic, and the BRITE Project (Business Regulatory, Investment, and Trade Environment), held a meeting on 15-16 April at EUBAM’s HQ in Odessa, according to EU Neighbourhood Info Centre.
The working group was able to identify near-term needs for progress on fulfilling obligations under the AA/DCFTA. The implementation of these measures will help simplify the customs regimes of both states, cutting down the costs for businesses.
The EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) aims to improve cooperation between the border-guard and customs services and with other law-enforcement agencies, and facilitate cross-border and international cooperation. EUBAM seeks to promote confidence building and to contribute to the peaceful settlement of the Transnistria conflict, as well as to engage with civil society and support the partner services’ anti-corruption and good governance efforts.
