The FINANCIAL -- Thierry Laborde has been appointed Deputy COO of BNP Paribas, in charge of Domestic Markets, effective 4 May 2015. He succeeds François Villeroy de Galhau, who has been entrusted by the French Prime Minister with an assignment on investment in France and in Europe.
The Board of Directors, Chairman Jean Lemierre, the General Management and all BNP Paribas staff join together in thanking François Villeroy de Galhau for his contribution to the development of the Bank and its businesses, according to BNP Paribas.
BNP Paribas CEO Jean-Laurent Bonnafé said: “Thanks to his leadership, his vision as a convinced European and his determination to foster the development of a responsible bank, François Villeroy de Galhau helped BNP Paribas to progress in a number of areas of Retail banking, to prepare the digital bank of tomorrow and to shape the Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility policies. I would like to warmly thank him for his commitment to the Bank and its staff over twelve years of collaboration.”
Thierry Laborde served as Chairman and CEO of BNP Paribas Personal Finance. He will now take on responsibility for Domestic Markets, which brings together close to 70,000 staff serving over 15 million individuals customers and over 1 million professional, entrepreneurial and corporate clients.
Commenting on the new appointment, Jean-Laurent Bonnafé said: “I have every confidence in Thierry Laborde’s ability to steer the growth of our activities in our domestic markets. He will bring to the task the vast experience he has acquired during his thirty years of service to individual and corporate clients. The successful transformation of BNP Paribas Personal Finance, not least in the introduction of digital tools, will stand him in good stead in driving forward the changes in our branch networks and adapting them to the changing habits and requirements of our customers.”
Domestic Markets comprises the branch networks of the Group’s four retail banks in the euro zone countries, plus three specialised businesses and a transversal team. The Retail banks are: French Retail Banking (France), BNL banca commerciale (Italy), BNP Paribas Fortis (Belgium) and BGL BNP Paribas (Luxembourg). The three specialised businesses are Arval (corporate vehicle fleet leasing and related services), BNP Paribas Leasing Solutions and BNP Paribas Personal Investors (online savings & investment and brokerage services). The task of the transversal team, Retail Development & Innovation (RD&I) is to assist with the overall development of the Retail businesses. In addition, Domestic Markets provides Cash Management and Factoring services to corporate clients.

Thierry Laborde – biography: Thierry Laborde began his career in 1982 with the Banque Nationale de Paris. Between 1984 and 2008, he served in various posts, with increasing responsibility, in several areas of the French Retail Banking division, including Head of the Strasbourg Branch Group (1999 – 2001), Head of the Marseilles Branch Group (2001 – 2006) and Head of Local Networks until 2008. He was then appointed Chief Executive of BNP Paribas Personal Finance, which provides credit solutions for individual borrowers in some thirty countries. Since 2013, he has served as Chairman and CEO of BNP Paribas Personal Finance.
